A Few Words on my SGC SG-2020

I recently acquired an SGC SG-2020 and I thought that my fellow QRPers here on the zed might be interested in a few notes on this unique little rig.

I'm interested in portable rigs above all others. My first rig, an FT-817ND, checked a lot of the right boxes, but there are times when 5 watts just isn't enough. The SG is adjustable from 1-20 watts. Not a huge jump up in power, but 20 watts for SSB can make all the difference, as I confirmed with on-air testing using a websdr.

My first...

Best multi-band, no-radials vertical?

I'm looking at verticals for 80 thru 10 (6 would be a plus). A ground radial system is not an option at my QTH. Planning on mounting on a 30-40 foot telescoping tower. I'm reading reviews, including horror stories about missing and/or damaged parts received and terrible assembly instructions.

Anyone have any positive suggestions?

GOTCHA!!!!

I have been having a run of bad luck on Parts from China!!

First it was the Driver transistors I ordered to fix a friends ICOM IC-746.

The driver transistors were bad, and the replacement was through the roof at RF Parts.  So we tried Chinese parts.

They came in and Installed them.  NOTTA!!!!!

In fact it worked worse than it did when I had the BLOWN transistors in it!!!

So the Transistors, though correctly marked, were NOT what they said they were.  WHO KNOWS what was inside!!!!

Next up...
